Facts and History about Bozeman Yellowstone Airport

Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport - All Information on Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN)

Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (also known as the Gallatin Field) is in Belgrade, Montana, about 13 kilometers northwest of the bigger city of Bozeman.

Official data from the U.S. Department of Transportation Statistics showed 970,816 passengers had used the Airport in 2021.

It was formerly known as the Gallatin Field and first opened in 1929 with six runways.

In 2011, a terminal expansion was opened, adding three gates and more retail concessions, and was renamed Bozeman Yellowstone International to associate the facility with Yellowstone National Park in the same year.

Despite its name, it mainly serves domestic flights.

The Airport has had a massive expansion of service in 2020 and 2021 to several nonstop domestic destinations as airlines entered the market or added new routes to increase leisure demand.

Located in the heart of beautiful Gallatin Valley, it provides nonstop flights to over 20 markets in the United States.

Its busiest domestic routes included Denver, CO, Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, Salt Lake City, UT, Seattle/Tacoma, WA, Chicago-O'Hare, IL, Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, Las Vegas, NV, Los Angeles, CA, Atlanta, GA, and Charlotte, NC.

The Airport also serves Big Sky Ski Resort, Bridger Bowl Ski Area, Montana State University, and countless other recreation and business destinations in the Bozeman, Belgrade, and Livingston areas.

Bozeman's mild year-round weather makes it an excellent choice for all types of recreation all during the year.

Although the temperatures throughout the year are mild compared to other areas, the temperatures here can fluctuate from day to night, so it is best to prepare.

Dress in layers, and don't forget to check the Bozeman weather forecast.

Spring is generally a late arrival in the Gallatin Valley. April sees temperatures into the 50°F, then in May, they rise to the 60°F, and finally, in June, the temperature during the day can get into the 70°F.

May and June are the wettest months in the majority of the state.

Always be prepared for that errant snowstorm in May. Though not typical, it is possible to be out enjoying the spring weather and end up having a snowball fight.

Bozeman weather in the summer is pleasant with typical warm days, cooler nights, and lots of sunshine. Due to its valley location, scorching weather and humid conditions do not happen very often. Temperatures in the summer rarely exceed 90 degrees during the day.

On average, the warmest month of the year is July, when daytime temperatures reach the mid 80's and evening temperatures dip back into the 50s.

During these months, brief mid-day thunderstorms are expected, with heavy downpours cooling the late afternoon temperatures.

Early in the Fall, daily highs average at 70 degrees. Bozeman Montana weather includes Indian summers, which can linger until the middle of October.

From late October to early November, Fall is replaced with the chill of Winter, with daytime highs in the 40s with nighttime lows reaching the 20s.

Bozeman has characteristically mild winters. The average coldest month is January, with typical winter temperatures ranging from a low of 15 degrees to a high of 55 degrees.

The highest recorded temperature was 105°F in 1892. The lowest recorded temperature was -43°F in 1936.

For the winter sports enthusiast, the relatively low humidity and light winds provide an ideal climate for outdoor winter activities. Visitors can expect an average temp of 59. Downhill ski season usually extends from mid-December to the beginning of April.

If you travel by car in Montana in the winter, make sure you have tire chains and how to put them on. Pay attention to road and weather reports, and don't take chances.

The best time to visit the USA is during spring (late March to late May) or autumn (late September to late October). These are the shoulder seasons before and after summer, so they promise mild temperatures and fewer visitors to the most popular destinations.

If the weather is your main concern, it's worth bearing in mind that the USA contains five distinct climate regions that vary significantly at any given time of the year. However, the most pleasant temperatures generally occur during spring and autumn across most of these regions.

The Northeast gets average highs of 9°C during spring and 11°C during autumn, with frequent showers. In contrast, the sun-kissed cities of the Southwest like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego bask in temperatures of 12–17°C through both shoulder seasons.

Further up, the West Coast is more relaxed and wetter. Late spring temperatures are warmer in Midwest hotspots but can get chilly in autumn, while the Southeast experiences average highs of 19–22°C in both seasons.

Its beautiful state-of-the-art facility is home to various amenities to ensure your travels through the Yellowstone and Gallatin Valley region are safe, comfortable, and memorable.

The Airport includes upper-level aircraft loading bridges, numerous restaurants, grab-and-go options, espresso counter, gift shops, conference room, data ports, wireless internet access, restrooms, ATMs, etc.

The terminal is designed with natural wood and stone and displays works of art depicting the character and nature of Southwest Montana.

The Airport covers 2,481 acres, has three runways, and sits 1,363 meters above sea level at 45.777°N and 111.152°W in Belgrade, Montana, USA.
